Encore It

The Good Part Was Always The Part We Took Off You.

Imagine telling somebody about it, and that being the whole job.

Everywhere else, listing is admin. Measure it, photograph it, describe it, price it, then argue about it. Here the dull half is finished before you have put your phone down — and what is left is the half you would actually enjoy.

Point Your Camera At It

First

The Camera Does The Boring Bit.

Hold your phone up. It works out what the piece is, what it is made of and how it has actually worn, and fills the whole form in while you are still standing there. You type nothing.

A blush velvet armchair beside a monstera

Filled in for you, in about six seconds

What it is
Wing-back armchair
Covering
Blush cotton velvet
Condition
Good — nap worn on both arms
Roughly
1970s, solid timber frame

Change any of it. Most people correct one word and move on.

Then

And The Atelier Makes It Come Alive.

Measurements have never made anybody want anything. So you are asked three things only you can answer — and back comes the piece with its life still on it, written for you, out of your own words.

Three questions, and nineteen words from you

Where did it use to stand?

the front room in Fitzroy, by the window

Who sat in it?

my father, every night, for eight years

What made you stop?

we moved and it never found a room again

Walnut, 1974, and it was my father’s. He read in it every night in a front room in Fitzroy for eight years, by the window, and the nap on both arms has gone soft where his hands went. It came to us when he did. We moved it into the spare room, then against the far wall, and it has been waiting there ever since for a room that suits it.

That is the listing. You wrote nineteen words of it.

And Nobody Turns Up To Haggle

They Have Already Paid.

The money is settled before anybody has your address. No messages at nine at night, no talking you down on the doorstep, nobody who was never really coming. Somebody buys it, and then you arrange the handing over.

The Money

You Set The Price. You Keep Nearly All Of It.

Listing costs you nothing, and a piece that waits a month for the right person costs you nothing. The only money that ever moves between us is on the day it sells.

You AskYou Get
$60 $54.00
$120 $108.00
$260 $234.00
$340 $306.00
$600 $540.00

Where it never sells, it has cost you the six seconds you spent holding your phone up at it.

Everything In Your Way Is Already Somebody Else’s Answer.

Hold your phone up at the piece you have stopped noticing. The dull half is finished before you look down, and the good half takes about a minute.
